- I agree that America has some lame factors, but I had a few disagreements/clarifications:
-
- ---
- America has NTSC for video
- Europe has the higher-resolution PAL
- America has 110V power
- Europe has 220/240 Volts (higher by a factor of *2*
- America has Cadilacs and Station Wagons
- Europe has the Volkswagen and similar efficient, small cars
- ---
-
- NTSC vs. PAL: Both standards suck, and need to be replaced by a better one.
-
- PAL is higher resolution, but NTSC has more frames per second. PAL looks better for stills,
- but movement is smoother on NTSC. Both have the same bandwidth. I have my A3000 set to PAL
- to get better resolution, but this is probably your only experience with it.
-
- If you ever actually watch a television program in PAL, you will notice the more flickery
- choppier movement compared to NTSC. Which is better is a matter of taste and what you
- grow up with.
-
- 110V vs. 220V: This is irrelevant.
-
- Most American households have 220V plug(s). That's what your refrigerator and washer and dryer
- are probably plugged into.
-
- The voltage is irrelevant, more is not better, but is more dangerous. The real "power" is
- the current your system can provide, and the US does have the best power infrastructure in
- the world.
-
- Both 110V and 220V were derived from US standards, since we were the first country to
- begin the process of "electrification" so to speak. We mainly ditched the 220V standard
- because it was overkill for most standard appliances, but this one the Europeans chose to
- use. It is not better, just different.
-
- Cars: Matter of taste.
-
- Volkswagen is a great little car, but not to useful if you have a big family, this is what
- the Station Wagon is for. Cadillac is meant to be a luxury car, Europe produces big
- luxury cars as well.
-
- If your comparision is Pinto vs. Ferrari, Europe wins, but I would rather have an I-Roc to a
- VW any day I don't care how "inefficient" it is, maybe I like a nice and bigger car. Still
- rather have a Ferrari though.
-
- As for our education, we have a good university system. We just don't know how to raise
- children in our high schools.
